Get to Know a Practitioner: Dr. Peter Caron, DACM
At New York Acupuncture Education, we believe the best learning happens from those actively shaping the field. In this series, we’re introducing you to the practitioners and educators who bring Chinese medicine to life in the classroom and in clinical practice.
Today, we’re honored to spotlight Dr. Peter Caron, DACM — an esteemed professor, acupuncturist, and founder of Gotham Acupuncture on the Upper West Side.
A Unique Path to Teaching Chinese Medicine
Dr. Caron’s journey into acupuncture began in an unexpected place — on the mat. From martial arts to rowing, his early passion for movement eventually led to curiosity about healing. That curiosity evolved into a career grounded in both rigorous academic training and global hands-on clinical work.
After earning his Masters and Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine at PCHS NYC, Dr. Caron went on to study with renowned teachers including Dan Wunderlich (orthopedic acupuncture) and Lonny Jarrett (Five Element theory). His clinical foundation is matched by deep training in herbal medicine, energy work, and meditation.
Global Experience, Local Impact
Before settling in New York, Dr. Caron spent two years in rural Guatemala leading free clinics through the Global Healthworks Foundation, delivering over 10,000 treatments to underserved communities. He’s also worked throughout Cyprus, the Netherlands, Canada, and the U.S., continually refining a clinical approach that blends technical skill with cultural humility.
Educator. Mentor. Clinician.
As a former professor and clinical supervisor at both Pacific Rim College and Pacific College of Health Sciences, Dr. Caron is known for his clear communication, calm presence, and ability to bridge theory with clinical reality.
“I don’t just want students to pass exams — I want them to feel the medicine in their bones. To be able to think critically. To improve their skills with every patient. That’s what makes a great practitioner”
His classes combine deep respect for classical foundations with a modern understanding of pain science, psychology, and trauma-informed care.
At Gotham Acupuncture
Dr. Caron brings that same clarity and thoughtfulness to his private practice at Gotham Acupuncture, where he works with a wide range of conditions — from chronic pain and sports injuries to emotional wellness and long COVID recovery.
